The Walk from Morgade to Portomarin

We walked about 5 hours today, partly because I was stopping to take pictures! We started out just as the sun was coming up, but still had our flashlights handy! The road was peaceful and we didn’t encounter too many other pilgrims.

We found the Iglesia de Santa Maria de Ferrerios . The baptismal font for this church is outside the door of the church.

We passed the 100 km Marker today and that marks the minimum that you must walk to receive a compostela (certificate) when you reach Santiago. Mike asked if the first twelve kilometers were practice!

One of the more unexpected sights of the morning was this perfect spider web shining in the morning light!

We reached the bridge at Portomarin over the Mino River and looked at the remains in the water of a late 10th century bridge to the city. A dam was constructed in 1956 which flooded the city, located on both sides of the river. The city was then rebuilt on higher ground, stone by stone being moved, including the church below.
