We traveled to Baiona (the starting point of our camino) by car and had the opportunity to meet a friend of a friend. It was very nice chatting with Daniel and listening to his insights on the camino. (He’s walked three of the routes!) We were able to visit two churches (but no stamps for our credentials–we must have two stamps per day as proof that we walked the entire way). The first was the Ex-colegiata Santa Maria which was undergoing a renovation.

The next was the Capela de Santa Liberata.

But the harbor in Baiona impressed us the most! Other than the beauty of it, there was a reproduction of the Pinta (the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria). We learned that after the trip of Christopher Columbus to the new world, the Pinta was the first ship to return to Europe and the people of Baiona were the first to learn about the new land! Now there is a festival every March 1st to celebrate this.
