Arcade to Pontevedra

Today had bits of challenging terrain, but overall, manageable. It meant going slower than we would have liked. We walked on pavement, dirt path, and along roads.

We saw some pilgrims with unique backpacks. One had patches of several caminos he had walked. We couldn’t imagine!

We stopped at the roadside Chapel of Santa Marta which was built in 1617!

Once we arrived in Pontevedra, we visited the church of the Pilgrim Virgin, which is a scallop – shaped chapel. It was built in 1778 and is dedicated to the virgin who, according to tradition, guided pilgrims from Baiona to Santiago de Compostela. The church contains the image of the Pilgrim Virgin, the patron saint of the province of Pontevedra and also of the Portuguese way. The scallop shell is visible in numerous places in the church itself.

  1. I like the Pilgrim VIrgin–pretty and lovely church. I have been catching up on the last few days because I was out of town at a wedding. Amazing journey!
